New York Lawmakers, Officials, Seek Solutions to Increased Gun Use

July 15, 2021 by helpdesk1

New York’s governor was in Brooklyn yesterday with various officials, members of the clergy and other community leaders for the first “Gun Violence Prevention Community Meeting.” The initiative comes as shootings in the city are on the rise. Governor Andrew Cuomo said it’s a complex issue in which the relationship between the police and the community needs to be built on trust…

But area lawmakers say there’s more to it than that. Stony Point and Orange County assemblyman Colin Schmitt says the governor forgets the role his own polices have had in increased gun violence…

Rockland sheriff Lou Falco says it’s frustrating that the governor moves ahead with safety proposals and plans without consulting state Chiefs, Sheriffs or District Attorney groups for input…

The governor yesterday launched a partnership with the Consortium for Worker Education to provide new job training and placement in good-paying, long-term jobs for 2,400 young people who live in New York City neighborhoods most affected by gun violence.
