New, Possible COVID-Linked Disease Emerges, Striking Children

May 11, 2020 by helpdesk1

New York has notified the rest of the country of a new trend they’re seeing amid the coronavirus outbreak, this one striking children. 85 reported cases are being investigated in the state in which predominantly school-aged children are experiencing symptoms like an atypical Kawasaki disease or a toxic shock-like syndrome, possibly linked to COVID-19. During the governor’s coronavirus press briefing yesterday, New York Health Commissioner Howard Zucker said these cases may not have been diagnosed as COVID-related at first…

The illness has taken the lives of three young New Yorkers, including a 5-year-old New York City boy, who died at a Manhattan hospital, a 7-year-old Westchester boy, who died at a Valhalla hospital, and a teenager from Suffolk County. An additional two deaths are currently under investigation. COVID-19 by the numbers, the state now has confirmed more than 335,000 total cases of coronavirus across the state and nearly 21,500 deaths. In Rockland, the state says we’ve got 12,400 reported cases, and the Rockland Health Department confirms 562 deaths here in the county.
