Mount Vernon City Council Votes to Remove Mayor After Guilty Plea

Mount Vernon’s City Council unanimously voted to remove Mayor Richard Thomas after he pleaded guilty in his corruption case earlier this week. News 12 says City Council President Andre Wallace was sworn in as interim mayor. Thomas called the move an “illegal coup d’etat” and said he’d report to work today. In his plea with the state attorney general, he was given until the end of September to step down.
