New York State Police are investigating an accident that snarled traffic during the morning commute last week on the Palisades Parkway. Troop F Commander Major Paul DeQuarto says State Troopers from Haverstraw responded to a multi-vehicle crash near exit 17 in Stony Point around 8:30 Thursday morning. 28 year-old Usher Schwartz of Montreal was reportedly driving a 2021 Hyundai Kona southbound at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles when he lost control, striking a tree in the center median and catching fire. DeQuarto says pieces from the front of the car broke loose and struck three cars traveling in the northbound lanes. Schwartz was pulled out of his car by multiple witnesses, and taken to Westchester Medical Center in serious condition. The occupants of the other vehicles did not require any medical attention.
