Migrant Court Cases to Be Held Locally Instead of in NYC, Court Rules

July 31, 2023 by Jeff Lewis

Rockland’s County Executive is hailing a court decision last week that will allow cases pertaining to the battle with New York City over its quest to house migrants in the suburbs to be held in the county instead of the city. Ed Day says Mayor Eric Adams is still seeking to bring an overflow of migrants to Rockland and house them here instead of in the five boroughs…

This all started back in May when the city tried to send around 340 migrants to the Armoni Inn and Suites Hotel in Orangeburg. Orangetown supervisor Teresa Kenny says the town’s battle could take another year…

The city accuses local officials of being “xenophobic” towards the migrants in violation of state and federal laws. Local officials claim it’s simply a zoning issue.
