Man Convicted of Pearl River Teen’s 1980 Murder Expected to be Released from Jail Today

July 23, 2020 by helpdesk1

One of the men convicted of killing a Pearl River teen in 1980 is expected to be released from behind bars today, after being sent there for getting drunk and violating his probation. Richard LaBarbera had been released from his 25-years-to-life sentence last year. Orangetown supervisor Teresa Kenny knows the pain Pearl River went through all too well, and says the town board doesn’t want to see him released from jail…

Rockland sheriff Lou Falco says those people who are released from jail after many years sometimes return to the place they once called home…

LaBarbera’s parole officer is believed to be on Staten Island so he probably would live nearby, but his ultimate destination is not known. LaBarbera spent about 40 years in prison after he was convicted of killing 16-year-old Paula Bohovesky as she walked home from the Pearl River library. Her 88 year-old mother still lives in Pearl River.
