Local Environmental Group Encourages Support for More Nuke Plant Oversight

June 24, 2020 by helpdesk1

A local environmental group is hoping the state legislature supports a bill that would give more oversight to the shutdown process for nuclear power plants across the state, including Indian Point. Manna Jo Greene is the Environmental Action Director of Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, and says increased oversight of the process is critical…

The Indian Point nuclear power plant across the river in Buchanan is currently being decommissioned. Indian Point two powered down permanently in April, and Indian Point three will close next April. Other plants in upstate New York will close over the next few years. In published reports, Holtec noted the NRC has vetted the company’s finances during its review of other license transfers in other states.
