A local Elks club is looking to join a national movement to honor fallen veterans this holiday season and a Nanuet restaurant is helping the cause. Vietnam Veteran John Draper of the Pearl River Elks says “Wreaths Across America” is a movement to decorate the graves of deceased veterans, and the Elks and other groups are looking to honor the nearly 15-hundred veterans buried at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet this holiday season. Draper says “Dom’s To Go” on College Avenue in Nanuet is running a fundraiser today, with a portion of sales being donated for the program…
Draper says the Elks need about $15,000 to honor all those buried in St. Anthony’s. “Wreaths Across America” day is December 17th. For more information on how you can help, call John Draper at 201-669-9159.
Haverstraw supervisor Howard Phillips says it’s important to keep our veterans in our thoughts all the time, not just on Veterans Day…
There are several events honoring our veterans today, including ceremonies in West Nyack, Spring Valley, Suffern and Haverstraw.
New York’s governor has announced that in honor of our veterans, today is the state’s last “Free Fishing Day” event. Fishing is considered one of the most therapeutic outdoor activities, making it an ideal activity for veterans, or anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors. So, anglers don’t need a fishing license today to fish New York’s fresh waters, though all other fishing regulations are in effect. For more information visit the DEC’s website.
