Progress is being made on a new supermarket in Orangetown, but don’t start camping outside their doors just yet…for one thing, the doors aren’t even there. Folks there have been eagerly awating the new supermarket, Lidl, to come to the Tappan Plaza on Route 303, replacing a building that over the years housed several different restaurants and a catering facility. Orangetown supervisor Teresa Kenny says rumors that the company had lost their financing are unfounded. Kenny says she’s spoken to people in the know, and they tell her there have been some supply chain issues…
The first Lidl store opened in Germany in 1973. There are more than 13,000 stores in 30 European countries and the United States. It’s similar in style to Aldi, which has two Rockland locations, in Nanuet and Stony Point. A grand opening date is not yet set.
