Leave the Leaves, or Rake Them to the Curb, but Don’t Put Them in the Street

November 19, 2021 by Jeff Lewis

Those leaves you’ve been raking out of your yard…you know they shouldn’t supposed to be in the street, right? In some areas you could be fined for putting them in the roadways. Mike Wilson is with Cornell Cooperative Extension in Stony Point and hosts the Storm Water Consortium monthly show here on WRCR, and he says you’re best off leaving the leaves where they are…

Each municipality may do their leaf pick-up slightly differently. Over in Clarkstown, supervisor George Hoehmann says, be sure to put your leaves by the curb, but still on your property…

Hoehmann says the highway department comes through five times throughout the season. For more information from the Cornell Cooperative Extension on the benefits of leaving the leaves, find this news article on our website and click the link for a helpful video.
