Lake Welch in Stony Point Closes for July 4th Weekend Due to Harmful Algal Bloom

July 1, 2022 by Jeff Lewis

The New York State Parks Department says Lake Welch Beach, Picnic Grounds and Public Boat Launch in Stony Point have been closed until further notice due to a Harmful Algal Bloom that’s affecting all of Lake Welch. Though the closures come at a bad time, this being a three-day holiday weekend, the Department says it’s necessary to protect public health and safety. Visitors should seek alternate locations for swimming and picnicking during the July 4th weekend.
