Immigrants’ Advocates Ask NY Gov for Funds to Promote 2020 Census Participation

Immigrants’ advocates want New York’s Governor to start distributing funds to promote participation in the 2020 census. The potential for a citizenship question on the census created fear that immigrants could risk deportation. That question won’t be included, but the fear persists. The governor allocated 20-million dollars for an outreach effort to counter that fear – but Meeta Anand of the New York Immigration Coalition says the effort hasn’t yet begun…

Census forms will go out next March. New York could lose more than 25-hundred dollars from 16 federal programs for each resident if New Yorkers are under-counted.
