Damage statewide here in New York was estimated at $32 billion. Wind gusts of 91 mile-an-hour were recorded at Seaside Heights, New Jersey, 234 were killed in the storm, and total costs nationwide were estimated at more than $68 billion. The damage was second only to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
