Hudson Valley Congressman’s SALT Tax Relief Bill Passes Procedural Vote in Congress

February 15, 2024 by Jeff Lewis

A tax bill that would aid married couples and championed by Rockland’s Congressman narrowly passed in the House yesterday in a procedural rules vote. Mike Lawler of the 17th District says the “State and Local Tax” bill, also known as the “SALT Marriage Penalty Elimination Act,” would alleviate heavy financial burdens faced by many Hudson Valley families…

The Bill would increase the SALT deduction from $10,000 to $20,000 for 2023 for married couples filing jointly whose taxable income is less than half-a-million dollars. The next step would be for the bill to come to the House floor for a full vote, but it’s not clear yet when that might happen. The bill also lacks a Senate sponsor.
