Hillburn Brush Fire Snarls Traffic During Monday’s Morning Commute

November 10, 2020 by helpdesk1

A brush fire near the Hillburn bus garage brought traffic near Old Route 17 to a crawl yesterday during the morning commute. The fire was first noticed late Sunday. Rockland’s director of Fire and Emergency Services Chris Kear says the blaze started in the mountainous area and he was able to get a view of the fire early via helicopter…

About a dozen volunteer fire departments from Rockland, six from Orange County and three from Bergen County were needed to bring it under control. Kear says there were no injuries or damage to any structures, just some leaves and dry brush caught fire. Rain later in the week should help lower that risk.
