Gyms and Fitness Centers Cleared to Open in NY; Low-Risk School Sports to Resume in September

August 25, 2020 by helpdesk1

Gyms and fitness centers were given the green light to open yesterday at 33% capacity, but only after they demonstrate compliance with all components of the state’s guidelines. They must contact the Rockland County Department of Health at 845-238-1956 to schedule an inspection.

Lower-risk, school sports in New York can begin practice and play beginning September 21st, but only in a school’s region, no travel sports permitted until October 19th. Those sports include tennis, soccer, cross country, field hockey and swimming. Higher-risk sports can begin practice on September 21st but play can’t begin until December 31st, or perhaps sooner. Those sports include football, wrestling, rugby, hockey and volleyball.

COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, we’ve got two in the hospital being examined, another eight have been confirmed with coronavirus. The state says we’ve got 14,139 reported cases, 33 more than yesterday, and no change in the number of fatalities here in the county, 674 for the last four weeks.
