New York’s governor has threatened to withhold state funding from COVID hotspots in the county including Ramapo and Spring Valley if local officials don’t uphold the laws and assist the State Police Enforcement Task Force. Andrew Cuomo said there have been violations at yeshivas where there were religious gatherings happening that exceeded the new guidelines in Brooklyn, Rockland and Orange Counties. The governor says he will withhold funding from schools in the red zone that violate his executive orders, though he’d rather it not come to that. Spring Valley Mayor Alan Simon could not be reached for comment.
COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, the Health Department says the COVID death toll stands now at 680, we’ve got 19 hospitalized and confirmed with coronavirus, and a total of 1,380 active cases. The state says since the crisis began, we’ve had a total of 16,891 reported cases, 62 more than Wednesday.
