Governor Signs Marijuana Bill into Law, Rockland Sheriff Calls it a Mistake

April 1, 2021 by helpdesk1

New York is the newest state to legalize adult-use marijuana. The bill establishes the Office of Cannabis Management to implement a regulatory framework that covers medical, adult-use and cannabinoid hemp. Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the bill into law yesterday, and it provides licensing for marijuana producers, distributors, and retailers in the pot market. The bill also creates a social and economic equity program to assist those disproportionately affected by marijuana enforcement. Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco says safety was not considered and thinks the bill should have had more input from police officials…

The adult-use cannabis program is projected to bring in $350 million annually and add up to 60,000 new jobs across the state. It could be at least a year before sales begin.
