Governor Declares State of Emergency for Rockland and Surrounding Areas, Today is Cuomo’s Last Day in Albany

August 23, 2021 by Jeff Lewis

Though the storm threat has passed, the rain contunes to fall and flooding remains a potential issue. The governor yesterday, in likely one of his last acts as governor, declared a state of emergency for Rockland and the surrounding area, and directed 500 National Guard Troops to assist where necessary. Andrew Cuomo said the high level of rain over a short period of time could be highly problematic for the entire Hudson Valley area…

Published reports said Cuomo meanwhile has filed for retirement benefits, which become active on September first . The Empire Center watchdog group estimates his pension will be about $50,000 a year, unless he gets convicted of a felony. Rockland Assemblyman Mike Lawler remains hopeful the bridge spanning the Hudson River between Tarrytown and Nyack will get its right name back after Cuomo leaves office…

Last week the governor also granted clemency to 10 people, who were convicted of crimes ranging from second-degree murder, to robbery and drug possession. He said all 10 people had been rehabilitated and have shown a commitment to their communities.
