[UPDATE: this event has been rescheduled for March 1st, 2023 at 7pm due to projected snow for Tuesday] The Friends of Harmony Hall Jacob Sloat House in Sloatsburg tomorrow is hosting an illustrated recounting of a historic legal decision in New York’s civil rights and education history that took place in Hillburn. The Black History Month event features Travis Jackson, whose father and 48 other families of color attended a segregated school in 1943. It was run down and ill-equipped compared to the white school in the neighborhood. Harmony Hall president Andrea Lamantia says the local NAACP at the time hired Civil Rights attorney Thurgood Marshall, who won the case 11 years before his landmark Supreme Court case, Brown vs. the Board of Education…
