Extended Coverage: U.S. Southern Border Situation

January 22, 2024 by Jeff Lewis

Issues at the U.S. southern border are shaping up to be the among the top issues, if not the top, in this year’s presidential election. President Joe Biden said Friday the southern border hasn’t been secure for the “last 10 years.” High numbers of migrants have come into the city, prompting Mayor Eric Adams to seek solutions in the suburbs, and beg the federal government for more financial assistance. In her budget presentation last week, New York Governor Kathy Hochul asked for $500 million from the state’s reserves to help manage the crisis…

Budget Director Blake Washington said the $500 million is on top of the $2.4 billion committed to the city thus far…

Rockland County Executive Ed Day is disappointed neither the president nor Congress has been able to manage the border situation…

Callers to “The Morning Show” last week had different viewpoints regarding the migrant situation…

U.S. Senator Chris Coons, a Democrat from Delaware, told CNN yesterday he was optimistic a border deal would be reached in the coming days.
