Executive Director of the NYS Office of Cannabis Management Steps Down as of Today

The position of Executive Director of the New York State Office of Cannabis Management does not yet appear to have been filled despite the recent resignation of its first leader, Chris Alexander, late last month. After expressing dissatisfaction with the direction of the office he was to have left the position in September, but he opted to step away early, officially as of today. New York Governor Kathy Hochul last month criticized the legal rollout of marijuana, with it leading to an unfortunately flourishing illegal sales market…

Assemblyman John McGowan of the 97th district, covering Orangetown and portions of Ramapo, says it’s not clear yet whether the governor’s overhaul of the organization will help fix the mess they’re already in…

According to the marijuana industry website, MJBizDaily.com, since the state voted to legalize recreational cannabis in 2021, only 130 adult-use stores have opened and retail licensing has been slow, leaving cultivators with unsold inventory.
