An Orangeburg man mowing his lawn was killed Wednesday after he was struck by a car driven by an allegedly impaired driver. According to published reports, Orangetown Police say 53-year-old Giovanni Boiano was hit by a Toyota Corolla driven by 29 year-old Jared DeVera of Englewood, New Jersey. He was heading south on Lester Drive when he veered off the road around 5:45 Wednesday evening. DeVera took a chemical blood test and was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and DWAI. He was arraigned in Orangetown Justice Court and sent to the Rockland County Jail on $100,000 bail. If you witnessed the accident or have any information, contact Orangetown Police at 845-359-3700.
