Domestic Violence Victims Advocates Call on Governor to Sign Bill Making it Easier to Report Crimes

August 1, 2019 by helpdesk1

Advocates for domestic violence victims and Rockland state lawmakers are calling on the governor to sign a bill that would make reporting abuse easier. Current law requires abuse victims to file police reports in the jurisdiction where the crime occurred. Amy Siniscalchi is the Chief Program Officer for the Center For Safety & Change in New City, and says the new law would allow survivors to report abuse to any New York law enforcement agency…

The bill, which is sponsored by Senator David Carlucci and Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski, was inspired by a Rockland domestic violence survivor who tried to report a crime at the town of Haverstraw police station, but was unable to because the crime occurred in Queens.
