Published reports say New York Attorney General Letitia James is “looking into” allegations that stories of veterans being displaced from an Orange County hotel to make room for migrants from New York City were fabricated, first uncovered by MidHudsonNews.com. Reportedly, the head of Yerik Israel Toney Foundation, a veterans advocacy group, misled lawmakers and the media, with homeless men being hired to pose as veterans. Sharon Toney-Finch told the Associated Press, “we should have verified better.” So far, here in Rockland, legal action seems to have thwarted the city from bringing migrants here. Elsewhere in the Hudson Valley, News 12 reported migrants were brought to the Red Roof PLUS+ hotel in Poughkeepsie late Sunday afternoon, despite Dutchess County having declared a state of emergency. The head of the Town of Wappinger’s Democratic Party said the the city is paying the bills for at least four months, and won’t cost local taxpayers anything.
