COVID-19 Cancels Rockland Volunteer Firefighters’ Parade and Convention

July 27, 2020 by helpdesk1

Both the annual Rockland volunteer firefighters’ parade and convention have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Journal News said it’s the first time in 108 years that has happened. Both events were scheduled for September.

More than 9,300 new coronavirus cases in Florida put that state ahead of New York over the weekend in total cases, including 78 deaths. Florida has around 424,000 coronavirus cases and nearly 6,000 deaths, among them, an otherwise healthy 9-year-old girl who died earlier this month, becoming the youngest coronavirus victim in Florida. New York added just 637 cases yesterday and recorded only three deaths state-wide, though we’ve got far and away the most deaths, just over 32,000.

COVID-19 by the numbers now, in Rockland, we’ve got three in the hospital being checked out, another five have been confirmed with coronavirus. The state says we’ve got 13,830 reported cases, 10 more than Friday, and the Rockland Health Department confirms 673 fatalities here in the county, unchanged since Thursday.
