A Long Island and Queens Congressman-elect who admitted to lying about his background and employment history is being challenged to a special election by the man he defeated. That’s according to TheHill.com. Democrat Robert Zimmerman Tuesday basically called for a do-over, suggesting Republican George Santos resign and run in a new election. Additionally, the Nassau County DA’s office announced yesterday they are investigating whether Santos committed a crime, and CBS News is reporting the U.S. Attorney’s Office is looking into his financial disclosure filings. Rockland Assemblyman Mike Lawler, also a Republican who is heading to Congress in 2023, told “The Morning Show” Tuesday that he’s not sure why someone would misrepresent his background to the voters…
In an interview with the New York Post, Santos admitted discrepancies in his background, previously reported by The New York Times. Santos falsely claimed he worked for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup and that he’d graduated from New York’s Baruch College. He also fudged his heritage, claiming he was Jewish. The Republican Jewish Coalition said Santos “deceived” them and was no longer welcome at their events. Santos said he is embarrassed and sorry for embellishing his resume, noting we all “do stupid things in life.”
