Concern Grows as COVID Rate in Rockland Climbs

September 24, 2020 by helpdesk1

There’s growing concern as Rockland’s positive rate of COVID infections is nearing five percent while the state has hovered under one percent. The county executive has urged caution as he notes the cases are primarily contained geographically and education efforts are underway to make sure the right steps are taken to prevent spread. The bulk of active cases are in the Monsey and Spring Valley areas.

COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, we’ve got one in the hospital being examined, another seven have been confirmed with coronavirus, and a total of 460 active cases. The state says since the crisis began, we’ve had a total of 14,954 reported cases, 63 more than yesterday, and the Rockland Health Department says we have 675 total fatalities, that’s unchanged.

SUNY Upstate Medical University and Quadrant Biosciences in Syracuse have officially received emergency approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its COVID-19 saliva swab test. The individual swab test has already been in use for widespread student testing on SUNY campuses. The governor called the test a “simple, quick and effective solution to conduct more testing, faster.”
