Compliments and Complaints on Orangetown’s Handling of NYC Migrants Situation Come in From Around the Country

May 18, 2023 by Jeff Lewis

Despite cries of anti-immigrant reactions on the part of the town of Orangetown and the Rockland County government, the two are pressing forward with legal actions against the city and the hotel that was initially secretly secured to house hundreds of migrants, in violation of local zoning codes. Orangetown supervisor Teresa Kenny says she’s been getting positive and negative reactions regarding the town’s response from well outside Orangetown’s borders…

Though he called the city’s actions unjust, Yonkers mayor Mike Spano said his city would be welcoming asylum-seekers to the Ramada Inn on Tuckahoe Road. Up in Orange County, two student events have been cancelled after migrants took over a hotel at which they were supposed to be holding upcoming events. That’s according to News 12, which reports the Newburgh Free Academy’s Music Council is looking for a new venue to host its banquet, and the Goldbacks Youth Football and Cheer comedy night fundraiser has been canceled outright, as another venue could not be secured on short notice.
