An enthusiasm for voting is why the East Ramapo school board is dominated by Orthodox Jewish members. That was part of the closing argument given yesterday by video conference in the NAACP’s Spring Valley chapter’s suit against the district. They claim the current method of electing board members is unfair. The Journal News says the NAACP’s attorney said the community is racially segregated and that determines who controls the education system. The NAACP wants a ward-based voting system instead.
