New York environmental officials yesterday announced that the cleanup of 61 acres at the dormant Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangetown is now complete. Patch.com said the area had 32 old abandoned buildings when the state closed the Center in the 90s. The soil in the area had contained various metals and compounds, including lead, barium, copper, PCBs and pesticides. The site, which sits near Convent Road and the Broadacres Golf Club, is now zoned for commercial use.
