Clarkstown’s Germonds Pool to Host First Duck Derby to Raise Money for Four Local Causes

August 2, 2023 by Jeff Lewis

Thousands of ducks will be taking to the Germonds Pool in Clarkstown this Saturday to raise money for several worthy causes in our area. But fret not, they’re not real ducks, they’re rubber ducks, like the one that Sesame Street’s Ernie famously loves so much. Former United Hospice CEO Amy Stern is heading up the project and she says rubber ducks don’t usually swim on their own, so some special volunteers will help make the magic happen…

Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann calls it a creative way to raise money for several worthy causes at the same time…

The first possibly annual “Rockland Duck Derby” is being held this Saturday morning August 5th at Germonds Pool in West Nyack at 9:30. The first three ducks to cross the finish line will win cash prizes. Third place gets $500, second gets $750 and first place gets $1000. For more information and to learn how to adopt a duck or two or more, visit https://www.duckrace.com/newcity. All proceeds from the event will benefit Good Samaritan Hospital, the Rockland Community Foundation, United Hospice and Jawonio.
