Clarkstown Town Justice Tentatively Agrees to Settlement with Valley Cottage Homeowner Who Cut Down Trees

August 27, 2021 by Jeff Lewis

A settlement between the Town of Clarkstown and a Valley Cottage resident who built an illegal addition on his home and allegedly cut down scores of trees on town land has been tentatively agreed to by a town justice. RCBizJournal.com says Edward Teitel of Old Stone Road would pay a civil fine to compensate the town for hours spent working on the case. The town has to return to court on September 21st with a bill for work done by the town attorney, engineers, building department inspectors and others. Teitel also has to replace 150 trees on the West Hook Mountain property owned by the town that’s adjacent to his. The removal of the trees is reportedly under criminal investigation by the Clarkstown Police Department.
