Clarkstown Supervisor: Teens Aren’t Getting the Message About the Dangers Alcohol

May 11, 2021 by helpdesk1

A wake is being held tomorrow for the 16 year-old killed Thursday in an accident in New City that Clarkstown Police believe was alcohol-related. Vlad Hvalyk, a junior at Clarkstown North High School, was a passenger in a car driven by 18 year-old Alan Mendoza, who was jailed on DWI and other charges. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann says despite all the education efforts, Rockland teens still aren’t getting the message about the dangers that come with alcohol…

A GoFundMe page set up to help pay medical bills and funeral costs has been set up for Hvalyk. It’s already raised $7,000 more than its $50,000 goal. His wake is tomorrow afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home in New City. A funeral service is set for Thursday morning at St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Church in Spring Valley. If you have information on the accident, contact the Clarkstown Police Detective Bureau at 845-639-5840. Suffern High School sophomore Jacqueline Zangrilli was killed in a car crash last month in Montebello. The 17 year-old at the wheel in that accident has been charged with manslaughter, DWI, vehicular manslaughter and other felonies.
