Clarkstown Celebrates Completion of Cropsey Farm Restoration Project

November 7, 2019 by helpdesk1

Area officials celebrated the completion of a restoration project on a 223 year-old barn in Clarkstown. The 1796 New World Dutch Barn on the 25-acre Cropsey Farm was saved from being torn down and becoming a housing development. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann says it was important to preserve the space to show what it was like when Rockland was a farming community…

Rockland Farm Alliance president John McDowell says actual farming will continue to take place there…

13 years ago, the county partnered with the town to purchase the Cropsey property to preserve it as open space. The county owns 61 percent and the town 39 percent. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says a commitment to preserving the past helps build a stronger future…

The total cost of the restoration project was about $1.5 million with Clarkstown contributing about $600,000.
