Clarkstown Bans Short-Term Rentals of Residential Homes

The Town of Clarkstown voted last Tuesday to ban short-term rentals, less than 29 days, on single, two-family, and multi-family homes, following a shooting incident in New City late January at an Air B&B. Town Supervisor George Hoehmann told “The Morning Show” Monday that the town’s already strong laws controlling short-term rentals needed more teeth…

RCBIZJournal.com editor Tina Traster says some felt that the move might have been a bit of an overreaction, citing a resident who benefits from being able to rent out her home…

But over in the town of Ramapo, Supervisor Michael Specht says a similar ban hasn’t yet become necessary…

Several Brooklyn men have been indicted for the New City shooting incident in late January. Rockland’s D.A. said the defendants opened fire on a single-family home that had been rented out. There were several people in the home, but no one was hurt. Law enforcement was able to secure several illegal weapons in the incident.
