April 23, 2025 by Jeff Lewis

The Rockland County Sheriff’s Department, Clarkstown Police Department, Rockland County D-A’s office and the State Police are holding a gun buyback event tomorow (Thursday) in Spring Valley. Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco says residents can bring in any kind of gun, but it must be unloaded and kept secure in the trunk of their car…

The event is being held tomorow from 4-7pm at the East Spring Valley Fire Department, located at 62 Overlook Boulevard, in Nanuet. Licensed gun dealers and active or retired law enforcement officers are not eligible for this event. Residents can bring in the guns with no questions asked. They’ll pay $250 for assault rifles, $150 for handguns, $75 for rifles or shotguns and $25 for non-working or antique guns. All firearms will be destroyed after the event. For more information, contact the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department at 845-638-5400.

President Backs Down on Threats to Fire Fed Chair, WRCR Sr. Market Analyst Calls Trump Behavior “Unhinged”

April 23, 2025 by Jeff Lewis

After taunting Jerome Powell for days with threats to fire him, the president backed down yesterday and said he has no intention of getting rid of the Federal Reserve Chairman. That’s according to CNBC, which reported President Trump said he never planned to fire him, blaming the press for running “away with things.” WRCR’s senior market analyst Ken Mahoney of Mahoney Asset Management says Trump’s behavior when it comes to Powell has been “unhinged”…

CNBC noted White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said Friday the Trump team was actively studying the possibility of firing Powell, who was appointed by Trump during his first term as president. Powell’s term doesn’t expire until May of 2026, and he has made it clear the president cannot, by law, remove him from office.

Rockland Lawmakers Look to Put Brakes on Faith-Based Housing Act

April 22, 2025 by Jeff Lewis

Legislation making its way through Albany that would allow religious organizations to get involved in housing here in New York is not getting lots of support amongst lawmakers in Rockland County. The Faith-Based Affordable Housing Act is designed to help struggling faith-based organizations by letting them redevelop their excess land and alleviate the state’s housing crisis. Rockland State Senator Bill Weber of the 38th District says he’d prefer maintaining local zoning control rather than have a state-wide approach…

Rockland County Executive Ed Day says the bill would force high-density housing onto municipalities without their approval…

Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht says he’s also concerned that local governments wouldn’t have enough control over any development that might get done…

Versions of the bill are making their way through the Assembly and Senate, with both currently in committee reviews.

Another deadline for congestion pricing after the April 20th date has come and gone and the tolls are still up and running.
