Bus Driver Shortage Continues, Area Lawmakers Urge Short- and Long-Term Solutions

A serious shortage of bus drivers nationwide continues to spill over into our area and across the state. In the East Ramapo Central School District, they’ve determined around 10% of students don’t have busing to and from school. State senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick says they are making progress…

Stony Point and Orange County assemblyman Colin Schmitt says now that the extended benefits have expired, there should be more bus drivers available in the near future, but there are short-term fixes available, too…

The DMV meanwhile is working to make it easier to get traditional and non-traditional Commercial Driver’s Licenses and get CDL testing done more quickly. The state is also reaching out to more than half a million current CDL license holders to lure them back into the workforce.
