Area Officials: If You See Any Lanternflies, Kill Them

The dreaded spotted lanternfly has returned to the Hudson Valley, and officials are urging you to kill them if you see any. The spotted lanternfly is an invasive species and feeds on a wide range of trees. Orangetown supervisor Teresa Kenny says, if you see them, kill them…

Adult spotted lanternflies have a black head, and gray and red wings. In Orangetown, they have been seen in Blauvelt and Sparkill. Over in Westchester, the County Parks Department has been using high-powered commercial vacuums to remove large clusters of lanternflies.
