Area Officials Hope Governor Pulls Back MTA’s Congestion Pricing Plan

February 3, 2022 by Jeff Lewis

The head of Rockland’s largest business group is hoping the Governor pulls back on the MTA’s congestion pricing plans for the city, which targets drivers that enter Manhattan below 60th Street. Rockland Business Association CEO Al Samuels says suburban commuters should not have to finance the city subways…

Samuels says post-COVID levels of traffic won’t be where they were before the pandemic when the congestion pricing proposal first came up, so the projected revenue won’t be there. Rockland State Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick says it’s completely unfair to west-of-Hudson commuters, since there isn’t a better, full-time, reliable mass transit option…

The congestion pricing program could be up and running in 2023.
