Two area lawmakers are introducing legislation that would give judges greater say over bail involving people charged with illegal gun crimes. The bill would further revise the 2019 bail reform laws by making any offense related to the illegal sale, use, or possession of a firearm eligible for cash bail. The bill was launched in the Senate by Rockland State Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick and in the Assembly by Westchester’s Sandy Galef. The bill has the support not only of Sheriff Falco, but Rockland D-A Tom Walsh and South Nyack Police Chief Daniel Wilson, who is also the President of the Police Chiefs Association of Rockland County.
