Area Lawmakers Looking to Block Proposed State Bill That Would Take Funds from Volunteer Firefighter Organization for Paid Group

May 24, 2023 by Jeff Lewis

Rockland state lawmakers are lining up to oppose a bill by a Queens colleague that would take funding from an upstate nursing facility for volunteer firefighters, and shift the money to the New York State Professional Firefighters Association. The Firefighter’s Home in the upstate city of Hudson would lose $700,000 in funding under the proposal by Assemblyman David Weprin, according to the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firefighters Association. 96th District Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski says he spoke with the Firefighters Association of the State of New York earlier this week, and he says there’s no reason to take money from volunteers and give it to paid firefighters…

The bill was slated to come to a vote in the Insurance Committee today. To learn more about the facility visit https://FiremensHome.com.
