Area Lawmaker Slams Proposed NYC Chocolate Milk Ban

October 2, 2019 by helpdesk1

A local lawmaker is crying foul after New York City public schools proposed a ban on chocolate milk. North Rockland and Orange County assemblyman Colin Schmitt sent a letter recently to Mayor Bill De Blasio opposing the proposed chocolate milk ban, pointing out the ban would have a devastating effect on dairy farmers all across the state…

Supporters of the idea say that from just two boxes of chocolate milk a day kids get 20 grams of total sugar, almost one-third of a child’s daily sugar allowance according to the American Heart Association and the World Health Organization. They both suggest 6 teaspoons or 25 grams of added sugar per day for children is more than enough.
