Area Firefighter Urges Caution if You’re Handling Fireworks

July 3, 2023 by Jeff Lewis

If you’re thinking of doing your own fireworks display, you might want to think twice and leave it to the professionals. Kurt Mulligan is the co-host of “Who Wants to be a Volunteer,” and he says if you’re going to do it yourself with the legal pyrotechnics, please do it properly…

Mulligan says you should keep lighters and matches away from children or others who should not have access to them. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has found a significant upward trend in fireworks-related injuries. Between 2006 and 2021, injuries with fireworks climbed 25 percent. More than 10,000 people had to be treated in emergency rooms in 2022 due to fireworks injuries. 11 people were killed in that same time period.
