A Hudson Valley congressman last week delivered what he called a “State of the Hudson Valley” address mostly listing personal accomplishments but also reviewing his goals for the area. District 18 Democrat, Pat Ryan, covering Orange and parts of Dutchess and Ulster counties, said he wants to corral high prices of prescription drugs and the opioid epidemic, and do more around gun safety…
Ryan became congressman when he defeated former Stony Point Assemblyman, Republican Colin Schmitt in 2022. He is being primaried by Alexander Saulino. Two Republicans are running for the seat as well, Alison Esposito and Lovelynn Gwinn. Esposito ran for New York lieutenant governor in 2022 as former congressman Lee Zeldin’s running mate. She’s a 25-year veteran of the NYPD serving as a commanding officer of the 70th Precinct. Gwynn is a real estate broker and a former in-house travel agent for Warner Music Group, who ran an unsuccessful campaign for Congress in 2020. The primaries are scheduled for June 25th.
