9/11 Ceremonies in Rockland

Tomorrow is the 18th anniversary of the terror attacks of 2001 on New York and Washington DC and many events are taking place here in the county. Rockland officials along with family members, clergy and others will hold a commemoration at the 9/11 Memorial tomorrow at 8:30 am at Haverstraw Bay County Park in Haverstraw. Family members will read the names of the victims. Bells will toll at 8:46 am and again at 9:03 am, commemorating the time the two planes crashed into each of the Twin Towers. Each bell-toll will be followed by a moment of silent prayer. Four more bells will toll in remembrance of the attack on the Pentagon, the collapse of the South Tower, the crash of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the collapse of the North Tower. In Clarkstown, supervisor George Hoehmann says their ceremony takes place from 5 to 6pm at town hall…

The Town of Haverstraw and the Rockland County Marine Corps League will hold a memorial ceremony, featuring their color guard, taps and a wreath-laying ceremony, at 6 pm Wednesday at Haverstraw Town Hall. Over in Orangeburg, the town of Orangetown’s memorial ceremony begins tomorrow at 6 pm. It’ll include presentation of the colors and a reading of the names of Rockland County victims. The ceremony will take place on the Monument Lawn at Orangetown Town Hall. In Ramapo, supervisor Michael Specht says their ceremony will be held tomorrow at 7 pm in the Town Council Room at Ramapo Town Hall…

In Sloatsburg there will be a moment of silence observed at 8:46 am tomorrow, to mark the time the first plane struck the first Tower. A memorial service will be held that evening at 8 pm at the community fields on Route 17. In Suffern, a ceremony will be held tomorrow from 7 to 8 pm at Village Hall. Up in Stony Point, supervisor Jim Monaghan says they’re holding a candlelight memorial service tomorrow night at 7 pm…

In Spring Valley, a service will be held tomorrow at 11 am at Memorial Park on Main Street featuring the East Ramapo Marching Band and Detective Sergeant Roxanne Lopez as keynote speaker. And last but not least, RCC will hold a ceremony tomorrow at 8:15 at the Technology Center Ellipse featuring a reading of local victims’ names, and a performance of Taps.
