Killer of Pearl River’s Paula Bohevesky Granted Parole; Second Defendant Goes Before Parole Board in June

May 30, 2019 by helpdesk1

Here we go again, for the third time this year, the State Parole Board has
released a Rockland killer. Richard LaBarbera of Pearl River was convicted
of the October 1980 murder of Paula Bohevesky, who was 16 when she was
beaten, stabbed and sexually assaulted. She was on her way home from her
after-school job at the Pearl River Library at the time. Area residents
have been fighting for years to keep him in prison. Rockland County
Executive Ed Day says he finds it disgusting that a man who has shown no
remorse should be set free…
Paula’s 87 year-old mother still lives in Pearl River. Labarbera’s
co-defendant, Arkansas drifter Robert McCain, remains in prison. He’s been
eligible for parole every two years since 2005 and gets his chance before
the board in June. Both have been locked away since being convicted of
second-degree murder 38 years ago, each serving 25 years-to-life. They
blamed each other for the murder.
