According to CBS New York, a New Jersey resident found a creative yet illegal way to fight rising gas prices. The Jersey man had a cloned gas credit card belonging to New York State Police and a truck modified to hold an extra 25 gallons of gas. Reportedly the Jersey resident would use the cloned gas card to fill up the modified 25 gallon tank and then resell it at a discounted price to other drivers. The truck has since been impounded and the Jersey man has been charged with Felony Possession of a forged instrument. State Police are currently investigating to see if others were involved.
Stony Point Action Committee for the Environment President George Potanovic Jr. has filed a lawsuit in the U.S district court against the town of Stony Point. Potanovic filed the lawsuit due to what he claims to be infringements upon his first amendment right for freedom of speech. During the COVID-19 pandemic the town of Stony Point’s board meetings began to live stream the entire event on zoom which would later transition to Facebook live sessions. According to Potanovic, during October of last year, Supervisor Jim Monaghan and the board began to cut the feed during the public input sections of the meetings.
We spoke with Supervisor Jim Monaghan on Thursday about this lawsuit and he had this to say in relation to the case.
A major concern raised by both Supervisor Monaghan and some Stony Point residents is that tax payer money will be diverted to attend to the lawsuit.
