A street in Spring Valley will be dedicated tonight in the memory of fallen volunteer firefighter Jared Lloyd, who died rescuing people from the Evergreen Adult Home fire in March two years ago. As discussed on Friday’s “Who Wants to Be A Volunteer” program, the honor comes two days before two local rabbis are due to be sentenced after pleading guilty to causing the fatal fire. Rabbis Nathaniel and Aaron Sommer were promised no jail time by Rockland District Attorney Tom Walsh, prompting Rockland’s Director of Fire and Emergency Services Chris Kear to predict that Wednesday’s session in court would provide little relief for Jared’s family, Rockland’s volunteer firefighters, or their supporters…
Tonight’s road dedication ceremony is taking place at 7pm on West Street in front of the Columbian Fire House, where Lloyd worked. 79 year-old Oliver Hueston, a resident of the Evergreen Adult Home, also died in the blaze.
