Two Monsey residents along with six others face federal charges in New Jersey of scheming to rip off millions of dollars from Medicare. U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito says 60 year-old Yitzachok “Barry” Kurtzer and his wife, 59 year-old Robin Kurtzer, had a physician’s office in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Since 2018 and through the COVID pandemic, they allegedly collected monthly cash kickbacks and bribes, sometimes up to $5,000. That was in exchange for collecting DNA samples from Medicare patients and sending them for genetic tests to labs in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. They allegedly billed Medicare for $1.3 million in DNA tests. They face a maximum of five years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
